Each bedroom and the living room are equipped with ceiling fans for your comfort, controlled by remotes. You'll find these remotes on (or in) the bedside tables in the bedrooms or mounted on the laundry wall for the living room fans.
The top left button on the remote adjusts the fan's direction:
Clockwise: Ideal for cooler months, set at a low speed to create an updraft. This helps circulate warm air from the ceiling down along the walls, keeping the room cosy.
Anticlockwise: Best for warmer months, set at a higher speed to push cool air down, creating a refreshing wind-chill effect that cools the room.
Additionally, there is a pedestal fan stored in the built-in robe of one of the bedrooms, available for extra airflow if needed.
Please note: For safety reasons the fan in the bunk room has been deactivated.
The living room fireplace is efficient enough to warm the entire house when regularly stoked and if windows and doors are closed. You’re welcome to take additional firewood from the chicken coop at the back of the garden, or collect kindling scattered around the property.
Each room is equipped with a portable electric heater for added comfort. Simply plug it into a power outlet to keep your space warm during colder nights. For safety, please remember to turn off the heaters whenever you leave the house.
Our property is serviced by a rainwater tank, which provides fresh water for all household needs.
Drinking water: The rainwater is filtered and perfectly safe and enjoyable to drink.
Showers: Please be mindful of your length of shower and don't leave taps running.
Washing machine and dishwasher: Please operate these appliances only with full loads to ensure efficient water use.
Gas for the cooktop and to heat the water is supplied by two gas bottles located at the side of the house. One bottle is always in use, while the other serves as a full backup. Occasionally you may need to switch to the backup tank if the main bottle runs out. If you notice that the water isn’t heating or the cooktop isn’t lighting, it’s likely time to change the tank. Simply follow these easy steps to switch over to the backup tank.
Please let Christine know if you switch the tanks over so that she can arrange for a full replacement tank.
There is plenty of parking available both on and around the property. For convenience, we typically park at the front, just outside the fence, or across the road. However, you are welcome to park under the house in the undercover area if you prefer. To help keep the property secure and prevent any curious wildlife from entering, please ensure the gate is always closed when not in use.
Two sets of keys are provided in the lockbox, with the code for the lockbox sent 1-2 days prior to your stay. The keys open the main house door and the garage door. Please leave both sets of keys in the lockbox upon your departure.
Please note that the gate opens outwards. Please ensure the gate remains closed when not in use, particularly from late afternoon into the evening, as this is when the wallabies come to visit and will eat everything in the garden!
The showers can be slippery so please be aware of this when taking a shower. Each bathroom has a non-slip shower mat in the cupboard if you wish to use this.
Please note that the ceiling fan in the bunk bedroom has been deactivated for safety reasons. Instead please use the pedestal fan which can be found in the built-in robe of the adjacent bedroom.
Our garden is a work in progress, with a vision to create a vibrant, sustainable sanctuary that invites and supports local wildlife. We are focusing on planting a variety of native and pollinator-friendly species to attract insects, birds, and bees. Keep an eye out for our resident Superb Fairy-wrens, often spotted enjoying the abundance of insects in the garden.
Please keep the gate closed when not in use so that the wallabies don't help themselves to the plants!
Wallabies like to visit in the evening, and while they're delightful to watch, they can be very curious and love to eat any plants they can find! To prevent wallabies from entering the property, please keep the gate closed whenever it's not in use.
Kangaroo Island is home to a thriving koala population, and koalas in the backyard gumtrees can occasionally get quite noisy, especially at night. Don’t be alarmed if you hear growling or bellowing, it’s all part of their natural behaviour during mating season. Usually every summer we have a koala and baby in the front tree.
Nepean Bay is a birdwatcher's delight, with a variety of birds that can often be spotted on and around the property. Our favourites are the black swans, blue wrens, oystercatchers, cormorants and pelicans. An Australian Birds book is available in the house to help you identify and learn more about the local birdlife during your stay.
